In Huntsville, Texas on March 26, 1939 a vivacious baby boy named Jonathan Thomas entered this world. Jonathan was the first of six children born unto Sally Bell and Theodore Roosevelt Hopkins. The family went on to settle in Houston, Texas. Jonathan was raised in a family of love and faith where God was always put first. Jonathan went on to graduate from Phyllis Wheatley High School and joined the U.S. Navy.
Jonathan met the mother of his eldest son, Virginia Thoma, at Phyllis Wheatley High School and married her shortly after graduation. Virginia and Jonathan lived in San Diego, California where she later gave birth to his eldest son, Jonathan Craig Thomas.
Jonathan spent his adult life serving the U.S. Navy. He traveled all over the world with the Navy and eventually went on to marry Tommy Dell. For a brief period of time Jonathan relocated to a naval base in Corpus Christi but found his way back to San Diego where he went on to retire from the US Navy. He later moved backed to Houston, TX to be close to his family and special friend Jerene. Jonathan eventually went on to live in Huntsville, TX. Later in life Jonathan married May Alice, the mother of his youngest son DeAndre Bray.
Jonathan was called home peacefully on July 25, 2016 while surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roosevelt & Sally Bell Hopkins; brother: Roosevelt Hopkins Jr.; sisters: Rosemary Chenier and Anita Pipkin; and brother-in-law, Joseph Chenier.
Jonathan leaves behind his children Jonathan Craig Thomas of Houston, TX and DeAndre Bray of Huntsville, TX; sisters: Doris Moore of Houston, TX, and Della Lee (Robert) of Missouri City, TX and friends Clarice of Mississippi and Cool of California along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
