Ralph Edward Bartels, 88, of Mexico, passed away a peaceful man at 6:40 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at the Missouri Veterans’ Home.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from noon until 1:45 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Ralph was born July 4, 1928 in Mexico, the son of Albert C. and Ada Marie (Adams) Bartels. On Oct. 11, 1959 in Olney, he married Dorothy Marie Colbert. She preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 2003.

Mr. Bartels was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Ralph worked as a railroad telegraph operator for Wabash and Norfolk. He then worked as a Mexico Public Safety Officer and finally for National Refractories as a kiln operator.

Ralph was a Christian and had a strong belief in God. He was also the original “picker”.

Survivors include two sons, Keith (Debbie) Bartels of Lancaster, CA and Lyndall (Beverly) Bartels of Paris; six grandchildren, Kelly Pinto of Lancaster, CA, Justin (Krissi) Bartels of Madison, Devin Bartels of Hannibal, Drew Bartels of Centralia, Quin Bartels of Columbia, and Hannah Bartels of Paris; four great-grandchildren, Kaelynn, Tucker, Jordy and Eli Bartels; and one sister, Clara Mae Sprague of Columbia.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Ralph was preceded in death by one son, David Bartels; three brothers, Joseph, John and Jimmy Bartels; and one sister, Donna Belle Brower.
