Woman Succumbs At 100

Mrs. Gertrude A. Stamm, 100, formerly of Penn Township, died Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. in the Leader Health Care and Nursing Center, West Reading, where she had been a guest since Nov. 3, 1975.

Born in Bern Township, a daughter of the late Henry and Caroline (Rentschler) Balthaser, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stamm, May 18, 1957.

She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Bern Church, Leesport R.D. 1; the Lutheran Church Women, and for more than 50 years the Sunday school; and the ladies Auxiliary of the Mount Pleasant Fire Co.

She is survived by six daughters: Clara, wife of William Batzel, West Lawn; Stella, wife of Edwin Mogel, Sinking Spring R.D. 5; Beulah, wife of Howard Heck, Wernersville R.D. 1; Ida, wife of Paul Unger, Wyomissing; Ella, wife of William Seidel, Whitfield; and Helen, wife of J. Herman Lamm, Wyomissing.

One son, John Stamm, West Lawn; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Clara, widow of Charles Leininger, West Lawn; and Ida, widow of Robert Schaeffer, Temple.

Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Wernersville, the Rev. Walton R. Horn officiating. Burial will be made in Bern Church Cemetery.
