Manuel Mendias Mendez was born on November 01, 1946 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Jose and Manuela Mendez.

He went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2016. His passing was peaceful while being surrounded by his family.

Manuel met the love of his life Delia Ybarra while attending high school in Carlsbad, New Mexico. They married on December 12, 1966 in Loving, New Mexico. They were happily married for 49 years while residing in Hobbs, New Mexico.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal in the Recon Division during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. During his service he was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Marksman Qualification Badge, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

After returning from the Marines he went to work for Anacondo Copper while studying computer repair in Compton, California. After his studies he went to work at Xerox in California. The family then moved to Hobbs, NM where Manuel went to work in the oil and gas industry for Schlumberger for over 15 years, then retiring with Dixie Electric after 9 years.

Manuel was preceded in death by his parents; Jose and Manuela Mendez, and three brothers; Jimmy, Rudy and Willie Mendez.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Delia Mendez of Hobbs, NM., one son Miguel Mendez and wife Jennifer and three granddaughters; Desiray Thompson, Demarie and Dinicia Mendez and one great granddaughter Aliza Lam all from Dallas, Texas, two Daughters, Michelle Mendez from Albuquerque, NM and grandson Carlos Mendez of Hobbs, NM, and Monica Soto and husband David from Hobbs, NM.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil-Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church with Rev. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Committal Service of Christian Burial will be held with Military Honors at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery of Hobbs, NM. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Calvary Memorial Funeral Home in Hobbs, NM.
