John, 88, Cridersville, died 8:10 a.m., at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born to Albert and Stella (Winans) Eley. On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Leola M. South, and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Ed (Ruth), Lima, Terry (Phyllis), Cridersville, Dick (Deb), Wapakoneta; one daughter, Linda (Garland) Bowers, Lima; nine grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Eley, Michelle (Brett) Porter, Melissa (Shane) Hensley, Jennifer (Fred) Harrington, Cindy (Travis) Grant, Ben Eley, Matthew (Erika) Eley, Sarah Eley and Brett Eley; six great grandchildren, Keelan, Ethan, Abie, Emma, Kaylea and Jesse; a brother, Joe, Delphos.

Mr. Eley retired in 1981 from Ford Motor Co., Lima Engine Plant, after 21 years service in quality control. Prior to that he had worked at the Lima Ordinance Depot. A graduate of Spencerville High School, he was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having served in the South Pacific. He had attended Calvary United Methodist Church, Cridersville. His memberships included the Hamer Lodge 167, Fraternal Order of Free Masons, Wapakoneta, the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, Bowersock Bros. VFW, Post 6772, Spencerville, American Legion Post 330, Wapakoneta, UAW 1219, Ford Retirees Club, & the MEL Club at the Lima Engine Plant. He was a Little League and basketball coach and a former member of the Cridersville Volunteer Fire Department. His life revolved around his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
