He moved to Houston in 1954, to the Bellaire neighborhood. He lived the majority of his life in Spring Branch and attended Spring Woods Junior High and Senior High Schools. He attended college at the University of Houston and Sam Houston State University, where he met his wife of 42 years. He worked at Harris County Flood Control with many co-workers turned close friends.
He is preceded in death by his father John E Shields. He is survived by wife, son and his wife, his mother, two sisters and their husbands, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends and co-workers.
Steve loved music and could often be found at Sig's Lagoon or Cactus Music thumbing through vinyl on a Saturday morning. He was an avid car enthusiast and reader, known by his friends to be a collector of art, knowledge and a quick wit.
