Garry Lee Thompson, 73, son of Carroll & Helen (Park) Thompson, was born August 24, 1942 near Redfield, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his home in Panora.
Garry graduated from Dawson High School in 1960. After graduation, he enlisted and served in the Navy from 1960-1963. Following the Navy, he worked in the electronics field for McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, and RCA in Grand Turk. During his five years at RCA, he worked on NASA's Gemini and Apollo projects.
In 1969, Garry returned home to Iowa. He attended Des Moines Area Community College where he studied data processing. On September 4, 1970, Garry married Candi Knowlton in Panora, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born. For the next 40 years, they made their home in Des Moines. Garry worked as a Systems Program Analyst in the financial industry, and was employed by Dial, Norwest Financial and I.T.S. (Shazam) during this time. After 30 years of service, Garry retired from Wells Fargo Financial and moved to Panora.
Garry is survived by his wife, Candi Thompson of Panora; daughters, JaNelle (Clint) Keith of Panora and Johanne (Jason) Godwin of Yale; grandchildren, Elijah & Maiah Keith and Piper & Knox Godwin; brothers, Kent Thompson of Council Bluffs and Rick Thompson of Kansas City; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald, and infant sister Donna.
Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Burial of his cremains will be in the Greenwood (East) Cemetery, Panora. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
