Lewis C. Bayles studied mechanical engineering at Stevens Institute, Hoboken, NJ and later at Charlottenburg, Germany.
Lewis was first married September 2, 1898 at Branford, Conn. to Miss Sara Meta Linsley. Together they had one son, Geraard Linsley Bayles ( fag ID 30879889). Sara was born Oct. 29, 1876 to Henry D and Mary Linsley. Sara died Jul. 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA.
Lewis was next married Oct. 29, 1929 at Newark, NJ to Rhoda Bush Brakeley.
He worked for several years at the Branford, Conn. plant of the Yale & Towne Lock Co. Later he was connected for many years with Ingersoll-Rand (1896-1931) in the USA and 6 years in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was a considerable inventor holding more than 50 patents including a patent for the jackhammer. He was at his son's bedside for several weeks in Phoenix before Gerard died of a gun shot wound. Lewis retired in Easton, PA. in 1931.
