Clay Center resident, Sharon Lucille Stark, 77, passed away peacefully Friday, July 22, 2016, at her home in Clay Center after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center, NE., with Rev. Kathryn Bates officiating. Interment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, NE.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Clay Center United Church of Christ, the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings, NE., or the Nebraska Lions Club Foundation.

Sharon was born in Alliance, NE., to Timothy and Esther (Nation) McDonald. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1957. She married John Stark in Alliance, NE., on August 24, 1958. The Family moved to Clay Center, NE., in 1966. Sharon worked as a secretary at Clay Center Public Schools, Clay County Extension Office, Clay County Treasurers Office, USDA Farm & Home Administration, and retired from the USDA Meat Animal Research Center.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with her large family and traveling, especially to International Lions Club Conventions. She was an active member of the Clay Center United Church of Christ where she served on several different boards and committees. She enjoyed gardening and canning her home grown produce. Sharon’s family especially enjoyed her homemade jams. She was also known for her organizational skills. Her large toothpick holder collection was numbered and cataloged with the information of when and where she purchased each piece and the cost. She was a long time member of the Chat ‘N Do Home Extension Club.

Sharon is survived by her husband, John; three children, Greg and wife Beth Stark of College Station, TX; Lynn and husband David Sterkel of Sutton, NE; Brian and wife Vicki Stark of Tempe, AZ; six grandchildren, Michael Stark; Katie Sterkel Griess; Evan Sterkel; Rebecca, Randy, and Roger Stark; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tom and Wife Betty McDonald; George and Wife Dorothy McDonald; and Jerry McDonald; four sisters, Esther and Arnold Rogers; Elaine Heisey; Helen and Kenny White; and Kathy and Joe Keaton; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Sharon was proceeded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Robert McDonald, and Brother, Francis McDonald.
