Vera was born on Jan. 29, 1926 in Villa Grove, a daughter of Forest and Elizabeth (Holmes) Gallagher. She married Rex Long in 1950. He died in 1986.
Surviving are her sisters, Melba Johnson and Genevieve Mazely and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and brother, James.
Vera attended Villa Grove High School and graduated in 1944. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, a member of Moose VO-3000, Order of Eastern Star No. 1021, and a member of the VFW Post No. 2876 where she held the office of treasurer.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for a chain of movie theaters for 15 years operated by George Barber, both as bookkeeper and cashier of the Gem Theater at Villa Grove and the Strand Theater at Tuscola.
She managed the Okaw and Tuscola Drive In and snack bars for two years for Cliff Metzger. She worked at the theaters from 1943 to 1950. She then worked as secretary of technology department at Quantum, retiring after 33 years.
She enjoyed camping and fishing in their motorhome with friends. She always liked to cook and was always eager to help provide deviled eggs for funeral dinners at Camargo United Methodist Church.
