Retired Marine Corps Master Sgt. Donald Edward "Donnie" Park, 67, of 301 Park Ave., Carrollton, Ky., died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Tapps Ridge, the son of John Simon and Thelma M. Bliss Peak.

He first served in the Marine Corps from 1957 until he was honorably discharged in 1977. He rose to the rank of master sergeant E-8, serving as a supply administration chief. He served in Vietnam and in the Philippines.

He re-enlisted and worked in Aviation Supply Management and Embarkation and was honorably discharged in 1980. He served in the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve in Kansas City, Mo., until he retired in 1986.

Among the medals he received were the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame and the National Defense Service Medal.

When he returned to Vevay in 1999, he helped with the Relay for Life and the organizing of a cancer support group. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge. He attended St. Peters Lutheran Church in Milton, Ky., and was a member of Messiah Luther Church in Mauldin, S.C. He lived in Carrollton, Ky., for the past 1 1/2 years.

Survivors include his wife, Norma C. Dowdy Park; three sons, Donald Randall Park of Hereford, N.C., Nathan Dale Park of Spartanburg, S.C., and Paul Douglas Park of Vevay; three brothers, Marvin Park of Peoria, Ill., Raymond Park of Florence, and Larry Park of Hebron; two sisters, Joyce Croft of Marion, Ky., and Karen Willoughby of Manito, Ill.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, John, Ivan and Lowell Park; and a sister, Norma Jean Smith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay, with burial in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at graveside by the U.S. Marine Corps ceremonial unit.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Switzerland County Relay for Life. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
