"Sally" Marcella Rose Rank, age 77, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, at her home in Shawano. She was born on July 28, 1944, to the late Alois and Beatrice M. (Schultz) Zeman at home on Townline Road in Bonduel. Sally went to a one room schoolhouse called Tracey Corners. She graduated from Bonduel High School in 1962, and never missed a class reunion as she had remained good friends with many of her classmates. Sally graduated in May and married Dennis Lee Rank on August 18, 1962 at St. John's Church in Pulcifer. They purchased a dairy farm in 1968 and farmed until 1983 raising a family to know a good work ethic. It was Sally's dream to own a supper club after bartending many places over the years in Cecil at the Prairie Schooner and Lilac Plantation in Gillett. Her dream started with leasing Sally's Harbor Lights (now Lighthouse Pub) in 1982, and then getting her opportunity in 1984 to purchase the Grapevine making it Sally's Sunset and Catering – heading West where Steaks are Best. Sally's business career was 38 years owning and operating a supper club, catering generations of family events, employee picnics, ice cream shop, and banquet halls for the final 11 years of her life. She was the epitome of hard work.
Sally and Dennis were members of Faith United Church in Gillett. Sally had a laugh and a smile that made everyone feel like a cherished friend. She was a fun grandma and made her grandkids feel special. They will remember her Easter egg hunts, visits to the home on the lake, and holidays with special stockings. Sally taught them how to knit, dance the Polish Hop and make kolaches too. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; children, Renee (Dan) Setzer, Robyn Berg, and Rhonda (Hugs) Strebel; six grandchildren, Danielle Setzer, Dylan (Grace) Setzer, Drew (Adrienne) Setzer, Dustin (significant other, Taylor Schreiber) Setzer, Bailey (significant other, Shaun Hanley) Berg and Ryan Berg; four great-grandchildren, Felix, Alexandria, Landon, and Vincent Setzer; sister, Doris (Don) Bruun; and sisters-in-law, Lucille, Alice, Sally Peterson, and Pricilla.
Sally is preceded in death by her grandson, Nathaniel who passed away as an infant; parents; and brothers and sisters, Alois, Jr., James, Dennis, and Anna Mae Hintz.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church in Gillett with Pastor John Laatsch officiating. Visitation will be held at 4:00-7:00 pm at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday, May 13, 2022, and at 9:30 am on Saturday until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Pulcifer.
