Barry W.G. Bates Jr., 68, departed this life on May 11, 2016, at Capital Health, Hopewell Campus.
Born in Huntington, Long Island, NY, Mr. Bates was raised and educated in New York. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Barry was employed by the State of New Jersey and later by Ford Motor Co. in Edison, NJ, where he retired after 33 years of dedicated service. For the past 14 years he was employed at Seal Security, Ltd (Bloomberg) as a security supervisor. Barry was an active member of St. John's Baptist Church, where he served on the Men's Fellowship Committee.
Barry was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Jackson; a great aunt, Rosa Jackson, and a grandson, Shaun T. Sims. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Pumpkin" Bates of Ewing; four children, Curtis Sims of Vineland, NJ, Minister Yolonda Johnson of Hamilton, NJ, Monica Donalson (Dion) of Lyman, SC, and Raymond "Tracy" Sims of Hamilton; a sister, Renee Jordan of PA; a special cousin, Patricia Singleton of Trenton; a niece, Lisa Jones (Anthony) of PAl 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Baptist Church, 70 Oregon Ave Ewing, NJ. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Chapel, Trenton.
