Jo Nell James, 88, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016.
Jo Nell (or Jo) was born the second of two children on Sept. 27, 1927, to James Edward Huffman and Azaley Davis in Itasca, Texas. When Jo Nell was only 6 months old, her mother passed away. Ed, her father, then moved the family to Davidson, Okla.
She and her older sister, Edna, were raised by various family members, eventually living with their grandmother in Dallas. It was while living with her grandmother she met Alfred Lee White. She and Alfred had four children.
Many years after divorcing Alfred, she met the love of her life, Fred James. She and Fred moved to Charleston, S.C., in the late 1970s. While living there, she became a nanny. Sadly, in 1986, Fred died unexpectedly during a routine surgery. She remained in Charleston and caring for the little ones kept her occupied. She diligently kept in touch with them over the years.
In 2001, she moved back to Texas. In the last 15 years, she became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, worked as a home health assistant, and most of all gained a great network of friends.
Survivors include a son, Jack White; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a few great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; son, Marion White; daughters, Beverly Anderson and Debra Gann; and a sister, Edna.
