Clarence was the son of August Witter and Mary Hannan. He was a veteran of WW II. He did not marry.

The Newell Mirror - Thursday March 15, 1945 - Clarence Frank, oldest son of August and Mary Witter, was born near Newell Iowa, Jan 2, 1901. His earthly sojourn terminated with startling abruptness as the result of a grade crossing accident at Storm Lake, Iowa March 7, 1945.

Clarence was the oldest of five children. Their mother died Feb 12, 1911 leaving the little family to the care of relatives. His public school education was in the Newell Consolidated schools.

The greater portion of his life was spent in and about Newell, largely in farm operation with the exception of a period of two years, when he was employed in Albert City in a produce station. He served in a similar capacity in the Newell station of the Loomis Produce Company.

When the call to arms came in World War II, he entered the service and served until an honorable discharge was granted by reason of his reaching the age limit for military service.

There survive his aged father who makes his home with a married daughter in Cherokee; a sister, Mrs Phil Wilmot of Cherokee; two brothers: George of Newell and Jerry of Peoria, IL.

Another brother, Edward, was a companion in death due to the same accident.

There also survive Mrs Charlotte Witter, widow of Edward, 6 nephews, and 3 nieces.

Services were held at Larson Funeral home Saturday March 10, 1945 at 10:30. Interment was in Newell cemetery.
The Newell post of the American Legion rendered funeral honors at the cemetery.
