Helen R. (Robertson) Bushnell, 94, beloved wife of the late Waldo E. (Bud) Bushnell, Jr. for sixty-six years, entered into eternal rest, on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. She graduated from Hood College in Frederick, MD. During World War II, she was employed at the Wright Aeronautical Corporation in Peterson, NJ, where she met her husband.

For many years she was bookkeeper at the family’s business, W. E. Bushnell & Son in Winsted, CT, and taught French as a substitute teacher at The Gilbert School in Winsted. She served in a variety of personal and organized charities. For many years she collected funds for the Red Cross, was a Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader. She was Parish Clerk, Vestry member, Altar Guild and choir member at St. James’ Episcopal Church, and she was a volunteer at the Winsted Memorial Hospital. Her concern for others extended regularly to people in need, as she brought meals and spent time each week with friends struggling with failing health and depression. In later years she was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pine Meadow in New Hartford, CT.

Helen is survived by a son, the Rev. Peter E. Bushnell and his wife Kathryn of Enfield, a daughter, Susan Bushnell Grim and her husband Kevin of Puebla, Mexico; six grandchildren, Michael D. Bushnell, Anna Bushnell Gray and her husband Duane, Jeremy M. Grim and his wife Lindsay, Ruth V. Bushnell, Jesse K. Grim, and his wife JoAnna, and Raymond C. E. Bushnell and his wife Carla; and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Suffield House, in Suffield, CT, where she had lived for the past four years, for their unfailing kindness and excellent care; and her caregivers from Masonicare Hospice for their care throughout her final illness.

A memorial service and committal of her ashes will be held on Saturday, July 30, 10:30 a.m. at Forest View Cemetery, Rowley Street, Winsted, CT. The service will be informal, and will be followed by a picnic lunch and reunion with family and friends at People’s State Forest in Barkhamsted.

Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 51 Church Street P.O. Box 27, Pine Meadow, CT, 06061. To leave online condolences, please visit www.Leetestevens.com
