Florian Marie Finkelson, the only child of Theodore and Josephine (Smith) Wagner was born October 18, 1924, in Austin, Minnesota. They lived in Austin for the first several years before moving to Adams, Minnesota. Florian went to Sacred Heart Parochial School and then attended and graduated from Adams High School. Her mother died when she was 16 and she had to learn to take care of the household for her father at a young age.

On a blind date, she met the man that would become her husband, Raymond Finkelson. They were united in marriage on June 24, 1943. They made their home on Ray’s family’s farm near Adams, until shortly after the birth of their daughter, Sharon, when they moved into town. After Sharon left home, Florian and Ray moved to Austin, before moving to Kentucky and Texas and then back to Austin, MN to be closed to their daughter and her family. The couple eventually moved to Glenwood, MN. When Ray passed away in 2006, Florian continued to live in their home in Glenwood. After suffering a stroke in 2013, she moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood where she continued to reside until the time of her passing.

Florian had an artistic talent that started to show through in her ceramics and blossomed when she started taking classes for china painting. Her daughter and grandchildren have many beautiful pieces she created during her lifetime.

Florian was also a great cook and was known for her apple pies. Her crusts were blue ribbon worthy. She was a hotshot bowler and she helped her team get to a few State Championships. Golf was another favorite pastime. She and Ray were able to do a lot of golfing in Adams, KY and TX. They also loved to travel around the country to visit family and friends. She was a talented seamstress as well. She made Sharon’s prom dresses and her wedding dress. Crocheting and embroidery work were also things that she enjoyed.

Florian was very active in her church throughout her life. She was always willing to help and to head up different groups. She was a proud member of Christian Mothers.

Florian had a great sense of humor and good manners. The staff at Glenwood Retirement Community always got a smile and a thank you for all that was done for her. She always remembered that through everything God had blessed her. She will be missed for her care and compassion for others. Her faith and beliefs in our Lord God was very strong and was always front and center in her life. She passed many of those life lessons on to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Tom) Olejnicak of Glenwood; grandchildren, Darcy Ritchie, Teresa (Alex) Cimochowski, Pamela (David) Chenvert and Marc (JoAnn) Olejnicak; great-grandchildren, John and Sharon Ritchie, Alex, Erica and Alicia Cimochowski, Vanessa and Leah Chenvert, Kristin Olejnicak and four step-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Florian is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
