Born and raised in Abingdon, Illinois, she was the fifth child of Angelo and Rosa Mangieri. She married Howard “Andy” Schaad on January 1, 1942, and dedicated her life to her family and friends, guided by her unwavering faith in Roman Catholic Christianity. During her marriage of 68 years, she enjoyed preparing and serving an abundance of delicious Italian meals to all who entered her home. She will be remembered as a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and spiritual counselor. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and numerous Catholic charities.
She is survived by five of her seven children, Rosemary (Kent) Yoerger, Anthony (Margaret) Schaad, Richard (Beatrice) Schaad, Johanna (Tom) Cummings, and Gina (Russell) Merritt; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband (2010); her son, Carl Schaad (2011); and her daughter, Marguerite Mercer (2010).
Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg with Rev.
