Mrs. Ora Childress Yates

Mrs. Ora Childress Yates, 67 of Jacksonville, Fla., died in a Jacksonville Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Burgie Harris Childress.

She is survived by her husband of Jacksonville, two daughters; Mrs. Simmey Charles of Grundy and Mrs. Melvin Endicott of Vansant; three sons, Richard Yates of Jacksonville, Elster of Liberty Mills, Ind., and Eugene, Defiance, Ohio, two sisters Mrs. Cecil Elswick of Roanoke, and Mrs. Sherman Smith of Grundy; five brothers, Curtis Childress of Indianapolis, George and Ruey, both of Vansant, and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 11 am at the Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Stewart Owens and Rev. Landon Colley officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Grundy.

Pallbearers were Tony Childress, Randy Childress, Berton Smith, Carl Boyd, Everett and Cledith Hackney.

Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
