George W. Carmichael Sr., of Dillon, South Carolina was born on December 14, 1928 to the late George Washington Carmichael and Bertha Barr Carmichael. He was 1 of 11 children. George attended the Dillon County School System.

On September 4, 1949, George married the love of his life, Mary Donnella McRae. From this union, 2 sons were born: George Jr. and Thomas.

Although George was a quiet man, he was someone whose presence you loved to be in. He was a family man. His sons were his pride and joy. He instilled Godly principles and showed them how a man was supposed to take care of his family thru his daily living.

George was an active member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Dillon, SC. He sang on the choir with his wife, amongst many other things.

He was also an active member of the Concerned Citizens of Dillon, in Dillon, SC.
George was an entrepreneur and started his own landscaping business "The Lawn Barber" in the late 60s. Founded in NJ, George took his business to SC in 1992. Because of the love for family, he did not hesitate to hire family and friends.
In 1992, George retired from "The Lawn Barber" and passed the business to his eldest, George Jr. Even though George Sr. had moved back to Dillon and entered retirement, he continued his favorite past time of cutting grass, until he moved back North with his wife in 2011.

In December of 2011, George and Donella moved into Genesis Rehabilitation Center in Voorhees, NJ, due to their declining health. Although their hearts were in Dillon, George and Donella adapted to the place they once called home…New Jersey.

In the beginning of 2016 George Dr. rededicated his life to Jesus.

On the quiet evening of Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the young age of 87, the Lord saw fit to call His child home, to be with Him.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

George is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Donnella Carmichael; 4 brothers, Dennies, Gerald, Mack and Rockeever; and 4 sisters, Wilema Brown, Stella Mae Harrington, Ella Nails and Blontee Greer.
George's legacy and loving memories live on through his 2 sons; Pastor George W. Carmichael Jr (daughter-in-law, Pastor Deborah A. Carmichael), and Thomas L. Carmichael. 1 brother, Grady Carmichael, 1 sister Annie Neal Greer and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
