Robert Charles Hartman Sr., 85, of Roanoke, Va., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.
Bob was a proud United States Marine who served his country in World War II. He worked for 35 years with New Jersey Bell Telephone in security and retired to Virginia in 1981.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Roanoke. Bob enjoyed working with his hands making small handcrafted magnets, especially for the children at church. He loved passing them out to everyone he met.
Bob was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Margie Gray Hartman, who died in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard Bengtson; son, Robert Jr. and wife, Lois, of Wisconsin; son, David and wife, Rebecca, of Virginia; daughter, Jeryl Booth and husband, Garry, of Texas; son, Mark and wife, Laura, of North Carolina; stepson, Bob Bengtson and wife, Brenda, of Virginia; stepdaughter, Lisa Bengtson and partner, Jo Browne, of New Jersey; sister, Dolores Geisler and husband, William, of North Carolina; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two
greatgranddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church, Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 4608 Brambleton Ave., S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24018.
