LCDR US Navy, Naval Aviator

Of Lompoc, CA.

A graduate of Cabrillo High School in 1997, he enrolled at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, and was commissioned in 2001. He attended flight training school in Pensacola, FL and Corpus Christi, TX. Prior to his assignment to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6, he served on assignments in Japan and San Diego. He returned briefly to Florida to serve in a helicopter training unit, and then was moved to serve in a Helicopter Marine Strike Squad in San Diego and Jacksonville. In 2012, Lieutenant Commander Jones moved to Naval Air Station North Island. He and Chief Warrant Officer Jonathon S Gibson of Aurora, OR, were conducting a landing on the deck of guided-missile destroyer USS William P Lawrence (DDG110) when their US Navy MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter crashed in the central Red Sea on September 22. They were both assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Six at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, CA.

His military awards include: Global War on Terror and Global War on Terror Expeditionary medals; National Defense Medal; 3 Navy/ Marine Corps Achievement Medals; and one Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

He is survived by his wife; two sons (ages 2.5 months and 6 years old); his parents; and a brother.
