Except for the past two years while living in Casper, Wyoming, Hazel was a lifelong resident of Cheboygan. She was born December 15, 1922 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Justin C. and Ebba M. (Johnson) Gahn. On February 2, 1941 in Cheboygan, she married Harry Hicks. They made their home in Cheboygan, and together they raised their four children. Hazel had been employed in the medical field for many years. She found great enjoyment spending time with her children and their families, sewing, collecting recipes, reading, and everything in nature. She will be fondly remembered for her gentle nature and great capacity to love.
Surviving are her children, Jacquelyn (Mike) Walsh of Casper, Wyoming, Linda (John) Kozlowski of Cheboygan, Harry (Carol) Hicks of Commerce Township, Michigan, and Susan (Ken) Wright of Davison, Michigan, a brother, Glen Gahn of Cheboygan, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry in 1994, two brothers, Albin and Vernal Gahn, and a granddaughter, Leasia Howlett
A graveside memorial service celebrating her life was held at Pinehill Cemetery in Cheboygan.
