Death of Mrs. Bullington - Dexter Dispatch, p. 1, 12 Sep 1912

Mrs. Lizzie J. Bullington, the wife of L.B. Bullington, died at the family residence in Dexter, Kansas at 7:15 o'clock, Wednesday, September 11th. For several years, Mrs. Bullington has been under the care of Dr. Hawkins, their family physician, being treated for heart trouble. Mrs. Bullington always appreciated excellent music and when the Venetian Trio was billed at the Dexter Opera House, she was feeling so well that she decided to attend the musical treat. The excitement was too much for her heart and she fainted during the entertainment. Kind and loving neighbors carried her out into the fresh air. When she revived sufficiently, Dr. Hawkins gave permission for her to be taken to her home in an automobile and P.J. Swartz brought his car and took Mr. and Mrs. Bullington and the Dr. up to the Bullington residence. After she had arrived home she expressed herself as feeling better but after a time became unconscious and continued to sink until death ended her every care on Wednesday morning.
Lizzie J. Smith was born in Kinmundy, Illinois on the 25th day of April, 1857, and attended school in Chicago, Illinois and Tisdale, Kansas. She was married to L. B. Bullington on the 17th day of December, 1874 at Tisdale, Kansas. Four children were born to this union: Mrs. Nettie Shirley who lives at Alvin, Texas; Charles Bullington of Dexter, Robert Bullington who died in infancy and Frank Bullington of Kansas City,
Other relatives from abroad who came to attend the funeral were S.A. Smith a brother from Winfield, KS; J.R. Smith a brother from Warner, Oklahoma; Mrs. E. L. Johnson a sister from Winfield, KS; Mrs. Carrie Watt, a sister from Austin, Texas; Mrs. Allie Peck, a cousin from Burden, KS; Mrs. J. D. Salmon, a sister-in-law of Winfield, KS; and Mrs. Mildred Merritt, a niece, of Kansas City.
Mrs. Bullington leaves a host of friends who have enjoyed her acquaintance for many long and pleasurable years. Many neighbors shared her hospitality and friendship and she was considered by all of them, a beautiful character, a loving mother and a helpful companion to her husband. Everyone loved her who knew her. She joined the Presbyterian church and later became a member of the M.E. church. She was a member of the Eastern Start and the K. & L. of S.
The funeral services will be held at 2:30 September 12th at the M.E. church and will be conducted by the Rev. J.W. Niell assisted by the Rev. J.D. Bodkin, of Winfield and the local pastors of Dexter. The Eastern Star will perform the last rites at the cemetery in conformance to the ancient and honorable custom of the order.
