Gwendolyn Powell, 94, of Lacon died July 24, 2016 at HCR Manor Care in Henry.
She was born on July 24, 1922 to the late James E. and Elizabeth Humphrey Woodford. Gwendolyn worked at the Lacon Woolen Mill for over 30 years and at Hobbs in Spring Valley for over 20 years. She attended Pearce Community Center, enjoyed bingo, excellent at cards and spent lots of time helping others. She was a member of Cedar Hills Baptist Church.
Gwendolyn is survived by her daughter, Mary (Royce) Placher of Sparland, IL; grandsons Royce Placher, Jr. of Sparland; Gary (Julie) Placher of Chillicothe; and great grandchildren Jared, Ryan, Erin, and Adam.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Hannah Mae, and one son Harold Edgar.
Services will be held on Thursday, July 28 at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon at 11:00 AM with Tim Benningfield officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 PM Wednesday, July 27 and burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery.
