Flora Eleanor Carey, age 90, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family on July 24, 2016. Flora was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joys were involved with raising her children. She was a wonderful cook and baker and delighted in providing delicious family meals where all were always welcomed. Flora was a devoted Southern Baptist and enjoyed reading her Bible. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and canning. In their younger years, Flora and her husband enjoyed long motorcycle rides on their Harley Davidson. Flora was a kind and loving woman with a feisty little bite when crossed. She was strongly devoted to her family.
Flora is survived by her son, Raymond “Actor” Carey Jr.; her daughters: Victoria Rae Cummings, and Cynthia Marie “Reds” Carey; her brother, Burton DeBusk; her 4 grandchildren: Dorraine Barnes, Divinity Lamborn, Melissa Pavlikowski, and Aaron Carey; and her 8 great grandchildren: Taylor Rae, Zachary, Caitlyn, Isabella, Nadya, Lilly, Luna, and Kiera. Flora was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Raymond A. Carey Sr.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 1 from 10-11 AM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd, Newark, DE 19702. A service in celebration of Flora’s life will follow at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family wishes to express their gratitude to their sister, Cindy Carey for her devoted care of their mother and to acknowledge the staff of Seasons Hospice, especially Ashley Figgs, R.N. for their special care of Flora as well.
