Savannah- Ellen Anding Jones, 85, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 after a short illness.
Ellen was born September 29, 1930, in Fort Lewis, WA, the only child of Colonel James Grafton Anding, and Jane Rehkopf Anding. She spent World War II in Savannah with family while her father was overseas in Europe. Ellen graduated from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD. She met Captain Robert Scarritt Jones while her family was living in Naples, Italy; and they were married at Ft. Meyers Chapel in Arlington, VA, in 1952.
She was both a proud Army brat and a proud Navy wife. Living in such far-flung locations as Naples, London, Boston, and Yokohama fostered a lifelong love for travel. Prior to moving to Savannah in 1997, she lived in McLean, VA, for 12 years and Northern, VA, for over 30 years. She was a Communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Savannah.
While always presenting herself with the grace and dignity that her upbringing and military life instilled, she was also exceedingly warm and caring to family and friends alike.
The funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery will be announced later.
