Pfafftown - Margaret Eaton Pruett, (AKA) Peggy Pruett, was best known for her singing, teaching and passion for life. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, 1922: she grew up in Philadelphia, Mt. Airy and Winston-Salem. In 1942 she graduated from Salem College as a voice major. She first taught at Granville School, Old Town School, Oak Summit. Later, she taught music and primary grades at Summit School for 25 years. Peggy became very involved in helping students with dyslexia. Most creatively she worked to develop Pioneer Day and Apple Day at Summit. Along with teaching, Peggy continued to use her musical talents by directing adult and youth church choirs. At one time or another, she directed the choir at Olivet Moravian, Burkehead Methodist, Calvary Moravian and Bethania Moravian churches. Peggy had a beautiful soprano voice that she used at many special occasions such as weddings, funerals and any inspiring moment including singing on the mountain top at Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp. Peggy was married to Sam Pruett for 65 years. Sam adored Peggy from the time he saw her ride down the street on her bicycle with her pigtails flying behind her. They met as teenagers at Mount Airy Moravian Church. She kept Sam's letters that he sent her during WWII. Their simple wartime wedding took place at the old Bethabara Church. They lived a full life, supporting each other in their various endeavors. Most of their married life was spent in Pfafftown. For a couple of years they had the good fortune of living in Lima, Peru. Peggy really enjoyed adventure. They had four children: Macleod Fitzgerald, Pam Short, John Pruett, Laurie Wright (Brad), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. To all of Peggy's former students - know that she loved you. To all Peggy's choir members: know that she loved making music with you. All YMCA, YWCA aqua-aerobics instructors and classmates: you energized Peggy. Thank you to Ron Short, Jeannie Stimpson, Dr. John May, Jane Gallaway, all the staff and residents at ArborRidge at Stanleyville and Brighten Gardens for all your understanding and tender loving care. A special thanks to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care. Peggy will continue to bless us with memories of her genuine love for others. Her acts of kindness were given out liberally. She desired to love and be loved. Her most frequent quote: "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us be glad and rejoice in it!" In lieu of flowers, please send your memorials to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice, Bethania Moravian Church, Salem College or the charity of your choice. We will celebrate Peggy's life at Bethania Moravian Church, July 12, 2015 at 2:00.
