Born on October 14, 1929 in Oneonta, NY daughter of the late Stephen and Harriet (Balter) Merritt. She moved from Oneonta when she was a junior in high school, receiving her high school diploma from Brewster High School in 1947.
Phyllis married to the love of her life John I. Ross on February 19, 1950 in Mahopac, NY. Together they enjoyed 43 years happiness and love before John died on July 7, 1993 from cancer.
Phyllis enjoyed many crafting hobbies when she was younger such as knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed learning about her family history and genealogy. As she got older she enjoyed crossword puzzles, cryptograms; a puzzle that consists of a short piece of encrypted text and listening to her vinyl records.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her loving children Craig Ross and his wife Barbette of Brewster, NY and Lori Ross of Ashford, CT and her sister Barbara Perrin of NYC, NY. She was predeceased by her adoring son Todd S. Ross in 2006.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private cremation will be held. Phyllis’ ashes will be placed with her husband and son at Milltown Rural Cemetery at a later date. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY assisted the family with arrangements.
