FROM THE ALTON TELEGRAPH; WILLIAM B. "BLACKY" BLACKBURN, 81 DIED NOV.17th 2006 at ALTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. HE WAS BORN FEB 4th 1925 TO WILLIAM EDGER and MOLLEY ELIZABETH BLACKBURN. HE WORKED AT ALTON BOXBOARD in the straw gang for 18 years and was a support service worker for 22 years at Alton Mental Health Center.Blacky loved to go to the local taverns and play pool,He as like Norm on CHEERS everybody knew his name.I knew him on a personal note,He was my brhter-in-laws uncle, He loved children and would do any thing for anyone,but as i,m in my 40,s I was a child to him so everyone was always called kid.He will be missed by most of ALTON, IL. HE is survived by a daughter & son -in-law. Regina & Eugene Sackett of Alton,IL. 2 grandchildren Amanda M. Blackburn,& Skylar R. Sackett both of Alton,IL. 2 Great-grandchildren,Reandalynn M. Blackburn & Breandalynn A. Blackburn; a sister Grace Thole of Alton; and several neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a dughter,Brenda Sue Blackburn. Visitation from 4pm-8pm.Tuesday at Elias-Smith Homes & Creamatory in Alton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday.The Rev.Lional Gruver will officiate. Burial will folloe in Brussels,Il.
