Ola Woods, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Gage Cemetery.

Ola Fay (Porter) Woods was born on September 13, 1935 to O. Pearl and Ruth (Gallagher) Porter on their farm southeast of Gage, Oklahoma. Ola was a late in life child for Pearl and Ruth, and was raised like an only child. Ola’s nieces and nephews were close to her in age so they grew up together. Ola spent summers and vacations with her nieces and nephews. Ola attended a country school for two years. She the attended Gage schools starting her third grade year. She graduated from Gage High School in 1954. After Pearl passed away, Ruth and Ola continued to work on the farm. They raised a large garden every spring and summer. They had chickens and cattle and sold eggs and cream for extra money. In the winter, Ruth and Ola made quilts. Ola was no stranger to hard work.

One day Dale Lee Woods rode into Ola’s life. They were married on June 8, 1968 in Shattuck. They lived on a farm near Arnett for a short time, before they bought a farm next to Ola’s home place. Ola and Dale were partners in a greater way than most couples. Ola became Dale’s eyes. They worked together on the dairy farm with Ola helping feed the baby calves and feeding hay to the cows. Even though friends and family would help out, on a day to day basis, it was Ola and Dale working side by side.

Ola and Dale had two children, Doris Ann and Keith Dale. Ola didn’t work outside the until the kids were teenagers. They rarely came home to an empty home. Saturday morning breakfeast was a special event and her children continue the tradition with their families.

Ola worked for the Shattuck Nursing Home before she became a caregiver. Her special patients were Ada Sherrill, Ellis Woods and Jean Stahlman.

Ola is survived by her husband Dale Woods of the home; daughter, Doris Ames and husband Chris of Woodward; son Keith Woods and wife Melba of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Bianca Woods of Oklahoma City; Jonathan Woods of Denver, Colorado; Jeffrey Ames and Zachary Ames of Woodward; as well as many other family and friends.
