Lillian Decker
WALNUT CREEK — Lillian W. Decker, a native and former long-time resident of Calistoga, died Sunday at a hospital here from complications of a broken hip. She was 95.
Mrs. Decker was born on Oct. 21, 1896, the last survivor of seven children of John and Caroline Schleicher, pioneer vintners who owned a hillside vineyard above Foothill Blvd. She attended Calistoga schools and business college in Napa.
Following World War I, she married Harry E. Decker, also a native of Calistoga, and they resided briefly in Vallejo. The couple returned to Calistoga and operated an electrical contracting business out of a shop on Washington St. adjacent to the old City Hall. During that time they were active in civic affairs.
Before World War II, Mr. and Mrs. Decker moved to Vallejo where Mr. Decker worked in the power plant at Mare Island Naval Shipyard.
Mrs. Decker was a member of Vallejo Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. Upon returning to Calistoga, she became active in the Community Presbyterian Church and was made an honorary member of the Calistoga Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. In earlier years she was also active in the Native Daughters of the Golden West.
She enjoyed her plants and flowers, and tended them daily until her hospitalization.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her daughter, Betty Decker Hardison of El Cerrito, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Calistoga with the Rev. Ernest Volkman officiating. Private interment is under the care of Wilson and Kratzer Mortuaries in Richmond.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church in Calistoga, the Arthritis Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
