Obituary of Thelma Gilbert
Thelma "Juanita" Gilbert, daughter of W.S. and Rena Allen was born on December 12, 1931 in Coweta, OK. She graduated into Glory on July 14, 2016 at her home in Coweta, OK at the age of 84 years. She and the "love of her life" George, were married on December 10, 1949 in Ft. Smith, AR and celebrated 66 years and 7 months of marriage.
Juanita "Grandma" is survived by her husband, George Gilbert; daughters, Vicky and husband Ron Sutter of Broken Arrow, OK and Kathy Keith of Coweta, OK; son, Harold and wife Carol Gilbert of Broken Arrow, OK; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and other relatives. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Delma Walts and 3 brothers, Walter Allen, JD Allen and Hugh Allen.
Juanita loved traveling with her husband George and during the course of their marriage visited all but 3 states. Juanita loved to sew and quilt. She made a beautiful quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. She loved to read and study her bible and taught Sunday School for many years. She was an excellent cook and made many wonderful meals for her family and friends. Her family was her priority and she opened her home with kindness and hospitality to all. She was instrumental in organizing the Allen Family Reunion and loved sharing those times with her family. Juanita was a kind, caring, genuine, Godly, virtuous woman. She was a loving wife and mother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Viewing will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating Juanita's life will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Clearview Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Glen Rowan and Joey Keith officiating. Pallbearers are Jim Sutter, Chris Sutter, Brandon Gilbert, Jared Gilbert, Rick Walker and Kevin Howard. Honorary Pallbearers are Justin Gilbert and Skyler Walker.
