Carl Leroy Sims, 86, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Carl was born Feb. 7, 1930, on a ranch in Burlington, Wyo. He joined the Air Force in 1947 and was stationed in Japan from 1948 to 1951, where he met his wife, Tamae. He was again stationed in Japan from 1960 to 1965, where they started the first all Japanese Square Dance Club. He was recently recognized by the International Callers Association with a Milestone Award for introducing Modern Western Square Dance to Japan. He has been square dancing regularly for the past four years at several of the local square dance clubs. Carl was a man of many talents and interests. After retiring from the Air Force, he became a computer programmer. After retiring from programming, he owned two successful donut shops in the Fort Worth area with his wife, Tamae. He sold those to "retire" again and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity until he was 80. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tamae, and his son, Jerry. Survivors: Carl is survived by his children, Leo J. Sims of English, Ind., Sharon L. Sims of Escondido, Calif., and David R. Sims of Fort Worth; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
