Sara Long Cox, 73, of Greenwood died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at her residence. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood with visitation at 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Visitation will also be Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Williams & Lord Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. Dr. Wayne Kimbrough and Rev. Leon Holly will officiate.
Mrs. Cox was born in Duck Hill to the late Ellis Long and Lodell Lamkin Long on October 18, 1942. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood. She was employed for many years with the USDA and for the Mississippi State Employment Service’s unemployment division. Mrs. Cox loved her church family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great granddaughter and children in the church's nursery.
Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband of 54 years, Billy Wayne Cox, Sr. of Greenwood; two sons, Billy Wayne Cox, Jr. and wife Denise Powell Cox of Carrollton, and Shane Cox of Carrollton; two sisters, Clara Bond of Greenwood, and Jo McCluskey of Carrollton and sister in law, Barbara Long. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Shana Cox Blaylock of Brandon, Caleb Cox of Carrollton; and Ben Cox of Carrollton. Mrs. Cox had one great grandchild, Ann Alyse Blaylock of Brandon, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be Ben Cox, Caleb Cox, Cory Blaylock, Gayland Cox, Terry Cox, Chet Bond, and Roy Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paten McDaniel and Alex Gillespie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams & Lord Funeral Home.
