English Nobility. Third Earl of Pembroke, Courtier and Literary Patron. He was born at Wilton House, Wiltshire and shared the literary taste of his mother and his uncle, Sir Philip Sidney. He was handsome and accomplished, matriculating from Oxford when he was only 13 years old. He became very friendly with the King James I, becoming a member of the King's Council for Virginia and sending immigrants and cattle there, and had incorporated the North West passage Company in 1612. He was named Chancellor of Oxford University in 1617. He died suddenly of apoplexy in London after a 'full and cheerful' dinner the night before.
