Obituary:
Teresa Elaine "Terry" Faulkner, 56, died after a courageous battle with cancer on August 8, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 1:30pm at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 13 & Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri, with interment at 1:30 P.M., Friday in the Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Terry was born in Talihina, Oklahoma on October 2, 1949 to Dr. Anthony and Mildred Lioy. At the age of three they moved to Fort Lee, New Jersey where many at Fort Lee High School still remember her as the only student to have been given an office amongst the teachers. She ran the student body, edited the yearbook, starred in the musicals, and won awards including those in drama and journalism. Terry's many dear friends and family in New Jersey are establishing a scholarship at the school in her name.

In 1971, Terry graduated from Sweet Briar College with a Bachelor's Degree in drama and English literature. Those interests were important throughout her life as she worked in the marketing and communications fields, volunteered her remarkable public relations skills on behalf of many community organizations, and tried her hand at researching and writing an historical novel. She was a voracious reader and was always ready to provide a critique of the latest popular novel or biography.

In 1971, she married Clark Woods Faulkner, Jr. with whom she spent 35 wonderful years. They shared a love of family and friends, the arts and their summer home on Madeline Island. They were especially proud of the accomplishments of their daughter, Elizabeth and son, Anthony.

Literature was one of Terry's great passions, and she devoted much time and energy to The Writers Place and to establishing the Chapter and Verse fundraising benefit. She joined the Junior League of Lincoln, Nebraska shortly after her marriage and, when her family moved to the Kansas City area in 1981, she became a valued member of the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri. Her community involvements included Pembroke Hill Parents Association, Nelson-Atkins Museum, St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, Kansas City Symphony, Missouri Arts Council, Missouri Citizens for the Arts, the Folly Theater, Kansas City Repertory Theatre and Lincoln, Nebraska Community Playhouse. She was a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Playing bridge with her friends brought Terry immense pleasure. She was a loyal, devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend, and her generosity of spirit and passion for life were blessings to all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her father, Anthony Lioy, she is survived by her husband, Clark W. Faulkner; mother, Mildred Lioy; daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Matthew Salem; son, Anthony Faulkner and wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Brady Faulkner and Andrew Salem; and mother-in-law, Betty Faye Faulkner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, Missouri 64111, St. Luke's Hospital Foundation/The Cancer Institute's Research Fund, 4225 Baltimore, Kansas City, Missouri 64111 or the scholarship being set up in her name.
