An angel went home today.

Jennifer Dawn Britton, a special angel, was called home on 23 July 2016. She passed at her home in Ripley, WV with her family and friends at her side as Kenny Rogers played softly in the background.

On 3 July 1970, Orwin Gail Britton and Delores Katherine Lee were chosen as the parents for this angel on Earth.

Although suffering from a rare, life long affliction (possibly Hallervorden-Spatz Disease ([HSD]) hindering her ability to metabolize iron which subsequently accumulated in her brain, she was an amazing testament to the enjoyment of life. Along with her outgoing personality, her contagious smile inspired those fortunate enough to make her acquaintance.

A lifelong resident of Ripley, Jennifer was a 1993 graduate of Ripley High School. She was a former employee of the Jackson County Developmental Center. Jennifer was a participant for many years in the Special Olympics. She was also voted 'Miss Photogenic' at a local beauty pageant.

She touched all that knew her. Two teachers would write poems about her and Jennifer inspired at least two teachers to begin their careers in Special Education.

Later in life, Jennifer would be stricken with Parkinson's Like Syndrome. It is unknown for sure if her affliction was the cause of the PLS, but it took from her many of her favorite activities. No longer able to talk, sing and finally swallow - she was robbed of most of her favorite things: her Dad's spaghetti, M&M's and singing and humming with microphone in hand along with Kenny, Dolly, Reba and many more. I'm sure she missed the ability to hug the most.

Despite these new obstacles, the affliction could never steal her smile. It lit up the room wherever she went.

A former care giver, Kathy, summed it best up when she wrote:
"My job has taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. My first position with REM started with a beautiful soul named Jennifer Britton. My love for her is undefinable. She taught me how to express love without words. Her eyes sparkle when someone she loves enters a room, her personality can light up even the darkest of rooms...."

Jennifer was preceded in death by her Grandmothers: Helen Lillian Smith Britton and Wilma Jane Walters Justice; her Grandfather: Gail Britton and step-Grandfather: William Ernst Lee; and her Uncle John Edward 'Jack' Lee.

Along with her parents, those left behind to cherish her memory are her five sisters: Angie Barnette, Alicia Britton, Lorrie Graves (Eddie), Janie Scarberry, and Erica Lehew; and brother, Robbie Britton. Also a step-sister, Lisa and her husband, Allen, in Texas.

Jennifer is also survived by nieces and nephews: Chelsea and Carrie Barnette, Jacob (Michelle), Trevor (Emily), and Joshua Graves, Krista Batten, Kyler and Rachel Scarberry and Griffin McCue. Jennifer also leaves behind several grand nieces and nephews.

An angel was called home today and the world's a little dimmer; Heaven, a little brighter.
