Mary Erko Calvert Radford, 92, of Boiling Springs, SC, wife of the late Benjamin Garland Radford, though alive in the hearts and memories of her family completed her earthly journey and passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016.

Born September 21, 1923, in Spartanburg County, SC, Mary was the daughter of the late Ray Calvert and Mamie Malone Calvert. A devoted teacher who truly loved her students, she taught in Spartanburg County District Two Schools for 38 years. Mary was graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers College, now known as Warren Wilson College.

Mary was a founding member of Alpha Beta Chapter of the SC Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority. She served as president, vice president, and secretary and received the certificate of Sapphire Sister for 44 years of service.

Mary was a life-long member of Fingerville United Methodist Church where her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were also life-long members.

She is survived by daughters, Edythe Green of Boiling Springs, SC, Sherry Henderson of Spartanburg, SC; and son, Michael Radford of Athens, GA. Mary was blessed with five grandchildren, Rick Green of Greenwood, SC, Amy Green Wojcik (Mike) of Boiling Springs, SC, Kyle Henderson (Stephanie) of Fort Worth, TX, Tim Henderson (Lisa) of Cumming, GA, and Jill Clough (Zack) of Washington, DC; as well as six great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by brothers, Raymond Calvert (Elizabeth) of Lake Bowen, SC, Tim Calvert (Janice) of Spartanburg, SC, Corvis Calvert (Martha) of Fingerville, SC; and sister, Carolyn Farr of Cowpens, SC. She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Aye of Youngstown, OH.

The family will receive friends 10:00-10:45 AM Monday, July 25, 2016, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, with Rev. Bill Thompson and Rev. Tommy Hill officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fingerville United Methodist Church, PO Box 242, Fingerville, SC 29338; or Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.

The family will be at the home in Boiling Springs, SC.
