Mary Jean Holler Schechinger, 83, of Waterloo, formerly of Westphalia, died Thursday, July 21 at Windsor Specialty Care in Cedar Falls.

She was born February 20, 1933 in Waterloo, daughter of John and Gertrude Morrow Shea.

She married John Holler, Sr. October 15, 1955 in Waterloo. He died January 27, 1981.

She then married Michael Schechinger April 8, 1989 in Walker, Iowa. He died February 23, 2013.

Mary worked at the State Desk for the Waterloo Courier for 20 years.

Survivors include: a son, John, Jr. (Vicki) Holler of Waterloo; a daughter, Linda (Kevin) Gaul of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Brandy, Brett, Bridget, Brittany, Brooke, Heidi, Heather and Johnny and seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Megan, Alannah, Caleb, Avani, Grace and James.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Colleen Coston; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Shea.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 25 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will take place for one hour before services on Monday.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
