Melvin Grover Blanchard was born in Port Neches, Texas on July 21, 1942. After graduating from high school he joined the Marine Corp. Following his discharge from the service, he worked for a salesman for years and eventually started his own heating and air conditioning company in Houston, Texas. He married in 1969,but later divorced in 1982. Melvin was father to two daughters, Angela Kay Blanchard Russell, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Cristi Aileen Blanchard of Lone Tree, Colorado. He was also the grandfather of two boys, Jake and Adam Russell. He was offered a job as a contractor during the Iraq war and worked in both the country of Djibouti, and spent spent years in Baghdad, Iraq. He left that position and joined his daughter, Cristi, to whom he was very close, in Colorado. In July of 2015, he suffered a stroke, and although he seemed to be regaining his health, he died very suddenly of heart failure, the morning of December 26, 2015. Melvin loved Garth Brooks, and football. He attended Garth Brooks concerts on several occasions, and one year he and his daughter, Cristi, were fortunate enough to attend a Super Bowl game. He was an avid Denver Broncos fans, and would have loved to see them win the Super Bowl in January of 2016. Melvin loved Ellie, a Cairn Terrier, whom he shared with Cristi. He was always easy going, and uncomplaining. His best friend was his daughter, Cristi, and he shared many happy times with her, including trips to France, and Germany. His death was unexpected, but he left knowing he was loved. He will be missed and remembered.
