DAVENPORT - Dorothy L. Parmele, 98, of Davenport, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Home in Davenport. Funeral services will be Monday, December 29, 2008, at 1 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Monday, from 11:30 a.m. until the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Home or Genesis Hospice/VNA or St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Davenport.

Dorothy was born July 19, 1910, in Davenport, the daughter of Thomas and Meta (Struck) Martzahn. She was united in marriage to Fenton Parmele on June 26, 1936, in Davenport; he died December 22, 1977. She worked at Litton Industries, formerly Bendix Aviation and was a licensed pilot and loved flying planes.

Dorothy was a farm girl who raised a lot of turkeys and chickens and gathered the eggs everyday. Together with her husband Fenton, they farmed for 40 years in Bettendorf. She was a strong-willed woman and liked everyone, she especially loved children. She enjoyed going to the riverboats.

Those left to honor her memory include sisters, Marie Timm and Olivia Wiese; sister-in-law, Eloise Martzahn; and 21 nieces and nephews.

Her parents, brothers, Lester, Thomas Jr., and Henry; and two nephews preceded her in death.
