Mrs. Manning was born on September 23, 1934 in Roanoke, VA to Homer and Lucile Day. As a child Betty traveled with her family living in many areas on the east coast of the United States. Betty attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. After leaving UGA she became the Secretary of Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, where she met the love of her life J.R. (Joe) Manning.
They made their home in Warner Robins, Georgia, after Joe completed his medical training and commitment to the USAF. Betty was not only a devoted wife but an active, involved, and loving mother, raising 3 children. Betty was a faithful member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Warner Robins where she served in many capacities, including the Vestry and as Senior Warden. She was a charter member of the Warner Robins Junior Women’s Club and the 2nd President of the organization. Betty was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, and Peach Belt Medical Auxiliary.
Betty served as the office manager of her beloved husband’s OBGYN practice for 10 years. Upon retirement they made their home on Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville, GA. Betty was active at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she volunteered in many areas and was a member of the vestry. She completed the 4 year Episcopal Education for Ministry. She was active in the church’s ministry at the War Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville and often gave to the homily at these services. Betty was a breast cancer survivor. The last years of her life were spent in Dublin, GA, a victim of Alzheimer’s. We would like to thank the staff at the Dublinair for their committed care of our mother. Mrs. Manning passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Dublinair Nursing Home.
