Martha Wilhemia Augusta Krueger FRYE December 13, 1909 ~ May 15, 2009 Martha was born to August and Augusta Krueger on a farm near Wausau, Wisconsin, the eighth of nine children. After a brief stint at factory work, she was employed as a domestic in Wausau and Milwaukee through the Depression. She was married to Russell Fremont Frye in 1938, a marriage that lasted nearly 52 years. Three daughters were born to them in Milwaukee, and then Russell's health caused them to move to the milder climate of the Northwest. Martha lived in the same house in the West Seattle Admiral district for 47 years and was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church. At age 91, she moved to Wesley Homes, Des Moines. Martha had to discontinue her formal education after 7th grade to help her older sisters with their families, but she was an avid reader and took continuing education classes throughout her life. She also loved to walk and would walk at least a mile into her nineties. She worked at many crafts, but her favorite was crocheting, which she continued till age 95. She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Doyle) Tonkinson, Jeannette (Leroy) Miller and Marjorie (Rick) Nath, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Homes Health Center, 1122 S. 216th Street, Des Moines on Saturday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. Interment is at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
