Nina M. Dawes was born April 20, 1923 in Springfield, SD to Jesse E. and Anna Stella (Hinek) Dawes. She attended school and graduated from Springfield High School, where she was homecoming queen. She attended and graduated from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield South Dakota. She married Clarence E. Jansen in Springfield on August 27, 1946.
Nina was a teacher and homemaker when her children were younger but then later enjoyed working at Hy-Vee. She mostly offered samples but even played the part of Mrs. Santa Claus during the Christmas season and a witch during Halloween. Nina enjoyed spending her time keeping an eye on her neighborhood. Nothing happened that she didn’t know about. She was a “no fuss” kind of person and was content working on her puzzles and word searches and watching her games shows. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very proud of them.
Nina is survived by her children, Judy Hawe, Sioux Falls, SD, Barb (Mike) Ketcham, Parker, SD and Alan Jansen, Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren, Michelle, Roxie, Jamie (Chris), Laurie, Rickie, Eddie (Carla), Tami, Dawn, MeLeah (Kris), Mallory, Mitchell, Katie, Morgan and Jared; 19 great-grandchildren, Andra, Hailey, Maren, Cory, Tyler, Seth, Megann, Alek, Courtney, Whitney, Talia, Klayten, Kolten, Mattie, Easten, Carson, Skylar and Aries; 1 great-great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; her brother, Charles Dawes, Lennox, SD; in-laws, Joan (Chuck) Odens, Forest City, IA, Jean (Allen) Green, Grand Junction, CO, Jack Jansen, Sioux City, IA, Duane Jansen, Fort Collins, CO, Delores Mulder, Spirit Lake, IA, Cliff Jansen, Pierre, SD, and Clarice Jansen, Dallas, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; brothers, Ray Dawes and Jesse H. Dawes; great-granddaughter, Christina Jackson; great-grandson, Kayden Thoreson; and her in-laws, Bernice Potter, Louis Jansen, Leroy Jansen, Leonard Jansen, William Jansen and Melvin Jansen.
