She had been a member of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church of Saegertown; a former member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Shippenville; Calvary Lutheran of East Cleveland, Ohio; Peace Lutheran of Chardon, Ohio; and the Townville United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school for 20 years. Katherine and her husband had provided a foster home for eight children in Ohio and Pennsylvania over the years. For seven years the family owned and operated a dairy farm at Troy Center and the Red and White Store for 15 years in Townville. She had been a TOPS member for 20 years holding various offices. She was also a member of the Townville Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flower beds, camping, traveling, and working crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Having a house full of children and grandkids was a real joy for her.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Steven Nuhfer and his wife, Dianna, of Townville, and Carl Nuhfer of Los Angeles, California; and three daughters, Vivian Mohl and her husband, William, of Guys Mills, Kandy Foote and her husband, Victor, of Meadville, and Anna Voller of Kittaning.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Jamie Copeland and his wife, Jennifer, of Clifton, Virginia, Chad Copeland of Vienna, West Virginia, Sean Nuhfer and his wife, Jennifer, of Cambridge Springs, Angela Copeland Marshall and her husband, Kelly, Shannon Nuhfer and his wife, Rachel, of Lexington Park, Maryland, Toni Skarzenski and her husband, Nick, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Ryan Nuhfer and his wife, Stephanie, of Erie, Wesley Foote and Ashley of Augusta, Georgia, Brett Foote of Meadville, Rachel Voller of Tarentum, and Kevin Voller of Pittsburgh; and three step-grandchildren, Damon Mohl and his wife, Jessica of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Rachel Mohl Whiting and her husband, Todd, of Monroe, North Carolina, and Michael Mohl and his wife, Kristina, of Bel Air, Maryland.
She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Logan Copeland, Kyle Nuhfer, Luke and Maya Marshall, Jackie and Sydney Copeland, Raegan Nuhfer, Lillian and Graham Nuhfer, William, Hannah and Charlotte Nuhfer, Jude Foote, Tristan Skarzenski; and eight step-great-grandchildren, Owen, Ella, Livia and Ava Whiting, and Klemen and Vera Mohl, Aden and Logan Bishop.
Also surviving are a brother, Thomas Etzel and his wife, Georgia, of Lynchburg, Virginia; four sisters, Esther Staab and her husband, Tiny, of Cranberry, Joanne Bell of Franklin, Betty Curtis of Ludington, Michigan, and Juanita Kaber and her husband, Dale, of Shippenville; and a sister-in-law, Rochelle Etzel of Shippenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Berlie Etzel, Jr.; and two sisters, Thelma Steele and Mary Morris.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Sam Marchetta, of Wesbury United Methodist Community, officiating.
Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery in Townville.
