Mr. Minich was a US Army Veteran serving in World War II in the European Theatre from 1944-45. In 1950 he started working with Gulf Oil Corp and in 1957, he opened a new Gulf Service Station in Carlisle. In 1962, he opened a second station in partnership with his son. He retired in 1969 but had part time jobs with his son at Minich Gulf.
John was a member of the Waggoners United Methodist Church, Carlisle. He loved to research genealogy of the Minich and Bitner families. A fan of the Phillies and the Washington Redskins and was a very close friend of the country music star Loretta Lynn. He was a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society, American Legion Post #101, Carlisle, and Cumberland Star Lodge #197 F&AM.
John is survived by a son, Ellsworth G. Minich, Carlisle; a daughter Rosie Minich Burton, Carlisle; a sister, Esther P. Rankin, Carlisle; eight grandchildren, Barbara Jo Punda, Camp Hill, Toby Ann Curry, Dillsburg, John E. Minich, Long Boat Key, FL, Cynthia Burton Romero, Okinawa, Japan, Nancy Sue Strine, Carlisle, Maryann Bricker, Carlisle, Wendy Keenan, College Park, MD and Jennifer Minich Williamson, Fredericksburg, PA and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Charles B., Elmer Earl, Leroy W. (Butch), Irvin Emerson Minich. and Ray C.; a sister Barbara F. Schlusser; a grandson Michael Allen Minich, who died in 1979; a granddaughter Susan Marie Burton who died in 1980 and a great-grandson, John Brady Minich who died in 2003.
Funeral services at Waggoners United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Timothy A. Funk and Randall L. Zook officiating. Burial in the Waggoners United Methodist Church Cemetery, Carlisle.
