Rebecca Jane "Becky" Vest, 96, of Waynesboro passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Piedmont Hospice House, Charlottesville, Va. She previously resided with her daughter at 227 Baldwin Lane, Staunton, Va.

Becky was born in Mercer County, W.Va. on July 21, 1919, and was the last surviving member of seventeen children born to James Conrad and Dora (Kidwell) Thompson.

She was a proud charter member of the Glen Lyn Virginia Church of Christ where she taught a Junior Sunday School class for 14 years. She was most recently a member of the West Waynesboro Church of Christ in Waynesboro, Va.

In addition to her parents and 16 siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Basil Vest in 1996; son-in-law, Richard Dudley in 2010; three nieces, and 12 nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Deloris (Vest) Dudley of Staunton, Va.; two granddaughters, Haven Lindsey of Austin, Texas, and Melissa Buck and husband, Tom of Moneta, Va.; two great grandchildren, Madison Heft, and Breanne Heft and their father, Brian Heft of Huddleston, Va.; as well as 12 nieces, and nine nephews.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Birchlawn Burial Park, 177 Birchlawn Circle, Pearisburg, Va. with the Rev. Todd Gray officiating.The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W.
