Vernon Robert Meyer, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
He was born on May 2, 1935, in Cole Camp, Missouri, the son of the late Richard H. and Nora (Bremer) Meyer.
He was married on September 18, 1976, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sedalia to Mildred “Paulette” Rich, who survives at the home.
Vernon worked as a truck driver for MFA for 10 years, as a livestock driver for Otten Trucking for 10 years, for Schneider Trucking for 25 years, and for Crete for 8 years.
He served in the United States Army and also the Army Reserves.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and was baptized at Immanuel Baptist Church in Jefferson City. He loved to drive a truck, something he did during his entire working life, and listen to the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio. He enjoyed country music and the Grand Ole Opry, John Deere tractors, and Andy Griffith.
He is survived by: three daughters, Clara Merrill (Robert) of Warsaw, Teresa Friedlander of Sedalia, and Ada Buckley of Windsor; three stepchildren, Julie Watson (John) of Jefferson City, Jeffrey Schwartz (Beth) of Russellville, and Jonathan Schwartz (Amy) of Jefferson City; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbert Meyer and Roger Meyer (Barbara), all of Cole Camp, and brother-in-law Orville Heimsoth, also of Cole Camp.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Heimsoth.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Pastors Shane Crum and Chris Nichols will officiate the services.
Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Riverview Cemetery.
