Robert Wallace Kellough was the son of John William Kellough and Asenath Vinsonhaler Poole.

Robert received his law degree from Ohio State University in 1902, then moved west, settling in Independence, Kansas, where he practice oil and gas law. He moved to Tulsa after the Glen pool oil strike of 1905. Robert was a delegate to the Republican National Convention from Oklahoma, 1916 (alternate) and 1932. On September 10, 1907, in Independence, Kansas, Robert married Ethel Elizabeth Booth.
